Choosing which server to play on is one of the first tough decisions players have to make when starting out with FFXIV. This choice is made even more difficult thanks to congestion on servers.

Recently, producer Naoki Yoshida posted about FFXIV’s data center expansion plans for Japan and Europe. These expansions will include new logical data centers and World redistribution.

1. Log out

Until recently, if you wanted to play on another server in Final Fantasy XIV, you had to do it the old-fashioned way—by visiting. Producer & Director Naoki Yoshida announced in January that the game would be expanding its data centers, allowing it to handle more players and future expansions. The first phase of this expansion, which includes adding a new logical data center to Japan and redistributing existing Worlds in Europe, is set to begin during maintenance for Patch 6.18 on Tuesday, July 5.

Eligible characters that transfer to the new FFXIV data centers will be able to use the Home World Transfer Service free of charge. Players who own a private estate will have their standard land purchase price returned to them, and apartment owners will be reimbursed the standard buying price of 500,000 gil plus additional compensation for lost furnishings.

4. Log back in
